The first review of the new E.P is in courtesy of Daredevil records, Germany.

Winterun - Shadow

Maybe some of you underground lovers know that band from Melbourne. They released some good EPs and Demos in the last 10 years and now they are back with a new 5 track EP. And it is a big surprise, because the material is heavier than before and with a l…ot of power and groove! SHADOW features 3 brand new tracks and 2 re-worked live favorites. And all in a cool digipack! The opener TOMAHAWK is a great blues ridden Stoner Rock song like CLUTCH, HALFWAY TO GONE or SASQUATCH did it (or most of the Small Stone label). The vocals are rougher as in the past and the mighty power is cool! The following SHADOW is more relaxed, with a slower vibe and some cool guitar (solo) work again. 8×10 is like a bluesy Stoner Rock song before the mighty SUCKER FOR PUNISHMENT (with a great harmonica beginning) will make your body move! And the catchy LIGHTER (again with great harmonica in it) close that record too fast! The perfect music for a small bar in the middle of nowhere! A big surprise!

With almost 10 years of heavy grooves under their belt, Melbourne four-piece WINTERUN are back with a new blistering E.P in 2010. Following on from the success of ‘Into the Underground’ (2008) and ‘Welcome to…’ (2006) the new recording, SHADOW, features three brand new tracks as well as a pair re-worked live favorites.

Tracked at the infamous Head Gap studios in Preston and mixed and mastered by Dav Byrne (Agonyhmn) ‘SHADOW’ breathes new life into the WINTERUN machine in more ways than one. Recent additions to the Winterun clan, Matt Taylor on Bass and Arron Gillet on Harmonica, have pushed the band in a heavier, catchier and more blues-ridden direction. With new tracks ‘Tomahawk’, ‘Shadow’ and ‘8 X 10′ already proving themselves live, this release captures a band hitting it’s peak, and pretty happy about it too!

Full of new blood, groove, hooks and a heavier-than-ever rhythm section ‘Shadow’ will be the precursor to the band’s forth Full-length release scheduled for early 2011.
